1 John 4:7 New American Standard Bible 7 Beloved, let’s love one another; for love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
God desires for us to encounter Him. Until we encounter Him, we will not truly know Him. He desires to immerse our lives with His presence, power, and His love. The love of God is sacrificial, it is pure, it is a decision of will. It is not based on feelings and emotions. It was demonstrated upon the cross of Jesus Christ.
This world is filled with people who are broken and who desire to know real love. People spend their lives chasing after things that will destroy them just so they can somehow encounter love. The love the world promises is empty and often is simply love.
But to know God is to know love. To love as Jesus loved is to abide in Him on a daily basis. John says that we are to love one another. This is what Jesus has commanded us to do (John 13:34). The world will know us by His love living in us. It can’t be counterfeited, and it is not something we can produce in ourselves. His love is only produced within us and manifested as we abide in Him. As we grow in Him and surrender to the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
Love comes from God. Those who know love and love as Jesus did are born of God. We demonstrate that we are truly children of God in that we are people of God. Going to church doesn’t demonstrate we are people of God. What truly demonstrates we are a child of God is His love living in us. This is the reality for the person whose heart and life is surrendered to Jesus Christ.
