For whoever has been born of God overcomes the world

1 John 5:3-4 New American Standard Bible

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whoever has been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.

The word victory is the Greek word nike, it means conquest, means of success, and victory. Those who are in Christ have overcome the world. We have overcome the world, because He has overcome the world. Jesus said in this world we would have trouble, tribulation, and opposition, but to fear not He has overcome the world.

John says this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. Jesus gave us the command that we are to love one another. Everything Christ commands us to do is born out of love for Him and His kingdom. The reason they are not burdensome is because God has called us to love Him, if we truly love Him, we will desire to please Him with our lives through every decision and choice.

The foundation and reason we are victorious over the world and its deceptive and demonic system is the faith we have in Christ. Faith in Jesus Christ is what sets a part the believer from the nonbeliever. It is what sets a part the child of God from one who is not a child of God. Through faith our sins are forgiven. Through faith the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. It is the Spirit of God working in our lives that enables us to live continually in victory over temptation and every assault of the enemy.

God has called us to conquest. Every child of God who takes discipleship and their relationship with Jesus of the utmost importance is the greatest threat to the devil. We in ourselves are not able to overcome the wiles of the devil. But through our fully reliance on Jesus Christ and His victory accomplished at Calvary, we will overcome. We will not only overcome, but we will bring incredible glory and honor to Jesus.

When we understand the depths of His love for us, we will desire to live for Him. We will understand His commands are not burdensome and whatever He has called us to do, His motivation behind all of His commands and plans is His love for us.
