God Thunders Marvelously with His Voice: Job 37:5-6

God Thunders Marvelously with His Voice

Job 37:5-6 New King James Version

5 God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend.6 For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’;Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength.

How did God create all things? He did it by His spoken word. God simply needs to speak, and it is done. His word will not return void. He is sovereign over all of creation. That means over every nation, over every throne, over every breath, over every moment, God is in control. The word marvelously here means wonder, miracle, act of God. Designates a mighty act of God that is inexplicable and indescribable according to human standards.[1] When God speaks miracles happen. When God speaks His will is fulfilled. Often, we may look at our present circumstances and be overwhelmed with anxiety or fear. But may our hearts be fixed upon the Lord and His purposes. May we meditate daily on how truly awesome our God is.

The purposes and plans of God are beyond our understanding. The Lord says this in Isaiah 55:8-9 8         “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9      “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways,And My thoughts than your thoughts.[2] We can never look at the surface and believe we have things figured out. Many times, people will abandon hope because they take their eyes off Jesus and fix them on whatever distraction or deception the devil has put before them. But the word great here means remarkable or out of the ordinary in degree, magnitude, or effect.[3] The purposes and plans of God are out of the ordinary. They are remarkable. They are far greater than we can comprehend because He is truly awesome. When we spend time meditating on the truth of His word it will put all things in perspective. We must not forget the Lord has told us to be still and know that He is God.

For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth. God has command of all creation. It is God who commands the snow to fall. When God speaks to the snow to fall, the snow responds and falls to the earth. All of creation and life itself is in His hands. Everything that Joel went through gave Him a greater revelation of who God is. Joel was a man who truly lived for God and regardless of all he faced, he never abandoned faith but also struggled because there were things about God he didn’t fully understand.

The same stands for you and me. There are things we are facing right now that we may not fully understand. There are things God is allowing and using to mold and shape us that honestly can be painful and difficult. But we must trust Him. We must trust the one who commands creation. We serve a God who can impact all things by His word in a moment.

God also speaks to the gentle and the heavy rain. It is God who provides the rain that is needed. Everything in all of creation is under His command. Our every moment is under His control. He is always with us, leading and guiding us. Many times, we can run ahead of God or become too distracted or too busy. But His grace is sufficient for every failure. His grace is sufficient for every trial. God is greater than anything we will face.

Prayer

Father thank you that you are awesome. Thank you that you are greater than all we will face. Thank you that you are sovereign over creation and that your word will never return void. Help me in my weakness and the trials I face. Help me to let go of relying on myself and my own strength. Father may I become less that you become more. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
