In The Beginning Was The Word

John 1:1-2, 14 (New International Version)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Jesus is God. This is the point of John's gospel. He wrote his gospel, guided and inspired by the Holy Spirit so that those who would read it would come to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and He is God Almighty.

The Father so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. There is nothing humanity has done or demonstrated that God should lavish His love and mercy upon us. But we know from the word that God is love (1 John 4:16). The very nature of God is perfect love. He is righteous, holy, and just but more than anything He is love.

This love was displayed through the sending of His Son Jesus. There are some on this earth who believe they are unworthy of God's love. In truth we are all unworthy of God's love. But there is nothing we can do to make ourselves worthy. There isn't enough good works that we can accomplish that God would look at us and say this person deserves my love or that person deserves my love.

But in coming to know Jesus we come to know the Living God. Jesus Himself is not only God, but Jesus is the door between sinful humanity and an intimate relationship with God the Father. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. It is through faith in Him alone that our sins are forgiven and we are brought into right standing with God.

When Jesus cried "it is finished" it meant that every debt concerning sin and wickedness had been dealt with. Through Jesus broken body and shed blood, He made a way for sinful, fallen humanity to be forgiven and draw near to God without fear. Some today would scoff the name of Jesus. Some view the bible and Jesus as simply fairy tales made up by man. But the truth is that Jesus is our only hope. Every day God is showing us how corrupt and wicked man is. God is reveals the depths of corruption and wickedness that sit in the halls of leadership.

If we are looking to man or government as our hope, we will be greatly disappointed. But if we have placed our trust in Jesus Christ we will not only have hope, we will come to know true love and our sins will be completely forgiven. Today Jesus stands with His arms open wide calling out to all who are weary and heavy laden, He simply says that He will give us rest if we will come and surrender all to Him.

Prayer

Father thank you for your love. Thank you for sending your Son Jesus to die in our place. Father today we believe that Jesus is not only your Son but that He is God. We believe that He died on a cross and rose again on the third day. Father forgive us when we fall short and help us to glorify your name in all things. Help us to simply live for you and to die to self. Father have your way and your will in our hearts and lives in the name of Jesus.
