Sermon Notes: Warriors, Servants, Brothers

Warriors, Servants, Brothers

I believe that every man has a purpose and destiny in Almighty God

I believe the calling of a man is a high calling

When married we become husbands

When we are blessed with children or have the opportunity to mentor and invest, we become fathers

But sadly, today being a man is under attacked

The enemy’s desire is to emasculate every man in America

He does this through isolation, confusion, condemnation, shame, and one of the major tools is pornography

I believe God has called every man to be a warrior, servant and brother

1.   God’s ideal for the family

Ephesians 5:22-6:4 22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.

25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.[a] 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. 30 And we are members of his body.

31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”[b] 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

6 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord,[c] for this is the right thing to do. 2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: 3 If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”[d]

4 Fathers,[e] do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

a.  God’s call for a husband is to love his wife as Christ loves the church

b.  To care for her

c.   To respect her

d.  To provide

e.  He calls fathers not to provoke their children but to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord

When we look at the life of every man I believe every man is called to be a warrior: called to fight, Called to be a servant: lead through serving, and Called to be a brother: love unconditional

1.   We are called to be warriors: To fight and protect for our families

John 10:11-18 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. 12 A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. 13 The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, 15 just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.

17 “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. 18 No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”

a.  Shepherd protects the sheep

b.  Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep

c.   As men our ultimate role model is Jesus Christ

Every man is called to be a servant

2.  We are called to lead as a servant

a. John 13:1-5 Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end.[a] 2 It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas,[b] son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.

b.  We are not called to rule over our families as kings

c.   We are called to emulate the character and nature of Christ

d.  We are called to be the ultimate servants in our homes

e. Matthew 20:28 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

3.  We are called to love unconditionally

a. Ephesians 5:25 25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her

b.Ephesians 6:4 4 Fathers,[e] do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

c.  Galatians 6:2 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. (NIV)

d.  The love that God calls husbands and fathers to is a sacrificial love

e.  It is a love in which we desire the very best for our wives

f.    The very best for our children

g.  If there is one word to describe Jesus and His work for us at Calvary it is the word love

h.  This is the love every man, husband, and father is to live and walk in

The only way a man can be who God has destined Him to be is to walk, be filled, and guided by The Holy Spirit

Jesus tells us to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and everything else will be added unto us

It is only in abiding in Christ and walking daily with Him that we become the man God has called us to be
