The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”

For the music director. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed detestable acts; There is no one who does good.

The greatest thing destroying our nation and the world today is godlessness. When David writes here "the fool has said in his heart, there is no God" David is taking about anyone who rejects the existence of God and His work in the world. Our nation and world plunges into greater darkness because many in this generation have rejected God and His ways and therefore their hearts are open to the greater influence of darkness.

As followers of Jesus we are called to pray for those who are lost. We are called to love those who do not know Christ. The world needs the church to stand in this hour and truly be the church. To be committed to holiness and righteousness and simply living for Christ on a daily basis.

We must let go of self-preservation and the pursuit of comfort. The more comfortable the world has become, the more godless people have become. Technology today has become the god in the life of many people. They rely on technology for everything. If there was ever a black out of technology, many would be lost not knowing how to function.

David shows us the result of being godless. He says "they are corrupt, they have committed detestable acts". As Christians we may sit back sometimes and be amazed at how wicked people have become and what they are truly capable of. This morning as I was personally scrolling through twitter there was a video posted of a teenager who was attacking two elderly people of Asian decent for no apparent reason. The root of this wickedness in our nation and our world is simply people have not relationship or connection to Jesus Christ.

The answer to every issue and problem we will face as a world is Jesus. Sin is the root of every issue. The hate, division, corruption, abuse, countless abortions, countless victims of human trafficking at the root of it all is sin. Christ came and died upon the cross to give His life. In giving His life and shedding His blood, He made a way that we can not only be forgiven for our sins, but we can be set free from the bondage of sin and death.

What is destroying the lives of so many today is sin. The problem especially in America is many churches have stopped preaching and talking about sin. Instead most sermons have become a self-help talk in which the gospel has become self-centered proclaiming to people that God simply wants us to be happy by blessing us and giving us what we want.

But when we examine this against the gospel we find this has nothing to do with what Jesus talked about. When Christ called anyone to follow Him, He called them to deny themselves and pick up their cross. He called them to lay down their lives. To follow Christ means that our lives are fixed upon living for Him and seeing the Kingdom increase in our lives. The more we grow in Him, the more we simply die to self.

Personally my heart breaks for our nation and our world. But I know the answer is not complaining about it or arguing and fighting with people. The answer is prayer and simply living for Christ. When the church simply does what Jesus has called us to do, we will see the world impacted for His glory and see His will and purposes accomplished in our day.
