Colossians 3:15 (Legacy Standard Bible)

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body, and be thankful.”

Pause for a moment and picture an umpire standing in the middle of your heart. Every thought, every emotion, every decision steps up to the plate, and this umpire has only one call to make: “Peace—or no peace?” Paul says that umpire is meant to be the peace of Christ Himself.

“Let it rule.” The Greek word is brabeuetō—let it umpire, let it arbitrate, let it have the final say. When anxiety screams, when offense knocks, when fear crowds the baseline, the peace of Christ steps forward and quietly raises His hand: “Safe” or “Out.” His peace is not the absence of trouble; it is the presence of a Person who has already overcome the world. When that peace rules, every other voice is overruled.

You were called to this peace “in one body.” Notice the corporate dimension. You do not carry this peace in isolation; you carry it in the same heart-space as every other believer. The peace that rules in me is the same peace that must rule in you if we are going to walk together as one body. When I insist on my rights, nurse my grudges, or rehearse my grievances, I am effectively telling the Umpire, “Sit down—I’ve got this.” And the whole body suffers fractured motion.

Then comes the simple, revolutionary command: “and be thankful.” Gratitude is the song the heart sings when peace is on the throne. An unthankful heart is a restless heart; a thankful heart is a governed heart. Thanksgiving keeps the door open for peace to keep ruling. Every “thank You, Lord” is another vote of confidence in the Umpire’s perfect call.

Prayer Lord Jesus, I surrender the gavel of my heart to You today. Take Your rightful place as the Peace that rules. When bitterness wants to call the shots, overrule it. When worry crowds the plate, call it out. Quiet every competing voice with the steady, unshakable calm that flows from Your finished work on the cross.

Teach me to live peaceably with my brothers and sisters in Your one body, bearing with them, forgiving them, loving them—because Your peace has already declared us safe in You.

And fill my mouth with thanksgiving. Even now, I thank You for the blood that purchased this peace, for the Spirit who enforces it, and for the coming day when peace will reign without rival. Let gratitude rise like incense until my whole heart smells like Your presence.

Rule, Lord Jesus. Rule in me today. Amen.

Live it out Today, every time you feel inner turmoil, pause and ask: “What is the peace of Christ saying right now?” Then consciously let that peace make the call—about the conversation, the decision, the reaction. End the day by naming three specific things you can thank God for, even (especially) in the places where peace had to overrule chaos. Watch how quickly thanksgiving reinforces the rule of peace.
