The Adventures of LIbby, Gigi, and Jesus: The Narrow Door Adventure based on Luke 13:22-30

Scripture: Luke 13:22-30 (NIV) Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?” He said to them, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.”

The Adventure Begins

Libby, with her blond hair shining in the sunlight and her hazel eyes wide with curiosity, walked hand-in-hand with Jesus along a winding path toward a beautiful glowing house on a hill. Gigi the black-and-white English bulldog trotted along beside them, her wrinkly face full of excitement and her little legs working hard to keep up.

“Jesus,” Libby asked, “will only a few people get to live in Your Father’s big kingdom house forever?”

Jesus smiled gently and stopped at a gate. “Come, I’ll show you,” He said. They saw two doors ahead. One was wide and fancy, with crowds of people laughing and trying to push through easily. But Jesus led Libby and Gigi to a different door—a narrow one, just the right size for someone who really wanted to enter with Him.

“This is the narrow door,” Jesus explained kindly. “You have to make every effort to go through it. It means choosing Me, trusting Me, and following My ways with all your heart. It’s not always the easiest path, but it’s the only one that leads inside to the great feast with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all who love God.”

Gigi wiggled through the narrow door first with a happy snort, then Libby squeezed through holding Jesus’ hand. Inside was the most wonderful party—tables full of delicious food, joyful singing, and people from every direction (east, west, north, and south) celebrating together. Birds sang, flowers bloomed brighter than ever, and the light of God’s love filled everything.

But then Jesus showed them what happens when people wait too long or try to enter their own way. Some stood outside the closed door, knocking and saying, “But we knew You! We heard stories about You!” Yet the owner replied sadly, “I don’t know you like a friend. You never really walked with Me.” Their faces showed deep sadness.

Jesus knelt down, hugged Libby, and patted Gigi. “The good news is that anyone can come through the narrow door—no matter how small or ‘last’ they feel. Many who think they are first might miss it if their hearts aren’t truly with Me. But the humble, the children, the ones who trust like you two… they will be welcomed first into My joy!”

Libby hugged Jesus tight. Gigi licked His hand with a big sloppy kiss. Together they promised to walk closely with Him every day so they would always be ready when the door to the kingdom stands open.

What Jesus Is Teaching Us

The narrow door reminds us that entering God’s kingdom isn’t automatic. It’s for those who make every effort to know Jesus personally—not just know about Him. It’s a relationship of trust, repentance (saying sorry for wrong things and turning to Him), and following His loving ways.

God welcomes people from every nation and background. And He loves it when kids like Libby (and even dogs like Gigi in our fun stories!) come to Him with open, trusting hearts. The “last” who humbly follow Jesus become first in the kingdom!

For Kids (like Libby): Jesus wants you to be His friend every day—talk to Him, obey Him, and choose the “narrow” way of love even when it’s hard.

For Families: This is a loving warning and invitation. Teach your children the joy of walking with Jesus now, so the door is always open for them.

2. Have you ever felt “small” or “last,” but Jesus made you feel special? (Share stories!)

3. Who can we invite to know Jesus so they can enter the kingdom feast too?

Family Activity: Narrow Door Game & Craft

• Play a simple game: Set up a “narrow door” (space between two chairs) and a wide one. Talk about easy vs. thoughtful choices while going through.

• Draw or build a model of the narrow door leading to a feast. Include Libby, Gigi, and Jesus in your picture!

• Make a family “Kingdom Door” poster with Bible verses and ways you will follow Jesus this week.

Closing Prayer (Pray Together)

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the narrow door that leads to life with You forever. Help us make every effort to know You, trust You, and follow You with all our hearts. We want to be inside at the great feast with You, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all Your friends. Bring people from everywhere into Your kingdom, and use our family to show others the way. We love You and want to walk closely with You every day! In Your name, Amen.
