A Call to Perseverance

Study Guide for Hebrews 10:19–25

Key Theme: Perseverance

Definition: Continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.

🔥 Icebreaker Discussion

  • What is it that makes people ultimately want to quit?

  • Can you think of a time you almost gave up? What kept you going?

🪖 Real-Life Example: Navy SEAL Hell Week

Hell Week is one of the toughest military tests in the world. It doesn’t create warriors—it reveals them. Candidates face:

  • No sleep for 5+ days

  • Cold, wet, and sandy conditions

  • Intense physical and mental stress

  • Teamwork and endurance tested to the limit

Only ~25% make it through. The key difference? Perseverance.

📖 Scripture Focus: Hebrews 10:19–25

1. Draw Near to God (vv. 19–22)

Why we can persevere:

  • Confidence through the blood of Jesus

  • We have access to the throne of grace daily

  • Jesus is our faithful High Priest, who understands our weakness

Reflection Questions:

  • What keeps you from drawing near to God?

  • How does knowing Christ gives you full access to God encourage you?

Prayer Prompt:

Lord, thank You for giving me access to You through Jesus. Help me to draw near with a sincere heart every day, especially when I feel like quitting.

2. Hold Fast Without Wavering (v. 23)

Why we hold fast:

  • Our hope is in Christ, not ourselves

  • Jesus is faithful—He will never fail us

Scripture Support:

  • 1 Peter 1:3 – We are born again to a living hope through Christ’s resurrection.

Reflection Questions:

  • What part of your faith feels most tested right now?

  • How can you remind yourself of God’s faithfulness?

Prayer Prompt:

Jesus, help me hold fast to the hope I have in You. Remind me of Your promises and strengthen me in the face of doubt.

3. Encourage One Another in Community (vv. 24–25)

Why we gather:

  • To stir up love and good works

  • To encourage each other as the Day of the Lord draws near

  • Because isolation makes quitting easier

Scripture Support:

  • Matthew 18:19–20 – Where two or three gather, Christ is there.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:4–7 – The Spirit gives gifts for the common good.

Reflection Questions:

  • Are you consistently gathering with other believers?

  • How can you be intentional about encouraging someone this week?

Prayer Prompt:

Father, connect me deeper to Your people. Help me to be a source of encouragement and to receive strength through others in Your body.

💪 Application Challenge

Like Navy SEALs, we’re in a battle — not physical, but spiritual. And perseverance is not optional. The enemy wants us to quit. But God calls us to:

  • Draw near daily

  • Hold fast firmly

  • Meet and encourage regularly

Perseverance isn’t about strength. It’s about where you run when it gets hard.

🎯 Memory Verse

Hebrews 10:23"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful."
