Jesus, Our Gate to Life
There’s a small ranch outside of town where a friend of mine once worked. Every evening, he would gather the sheep and lead them into the fenced pasture. There was only one gate, and he would sit near it as the sun went down. When I asked him why he stayed there, he smiled and said, “As long as I watch this gate, nothing gets in without me knowing, and none of my sheep wander off without me seeing.” His presence brought peace—not just to the animals, but to him. He knew the safety of the flock depended entirely on that gateway.
Jesus used a similar picture to remind us of His role in our lives:
John 10:7–10 (NIV) 7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Jesus is not just a guide—He is the entrance to safety, salvation, and abundance. Through Him we find rest for our souls, protection from spiritual danger, and nourishment for daily living. The enemy tries to steal joy, destroy faith, and pull us away, but Jesus offers fullness of life—peace, purpose, and pasture for the heart.
Jesus tells us that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. There are things the enemy will present to us that seem applying to the eye. But they are designed to destroy us. The closer we stay to the shepherd, the safer we are.
We must understand that Jesus is not merely a doorway, He is the way. He is the one who leads and guides us. Regarldess of how hard the journey is, the grace of God is greater. He is the one who carries us. There are real moments when we feel like quitting, but we must remember the one we follow. He is leading us. He will never abandon us nor forsake us.
He has come to give us life and life abundantly. The abundant life is to know Him. It is to know Him intimately and grow deeply in our relationship with Him. He is always present and near. I encourage you today to draw near to the Good Shepherd.
Quote: “Jesus doesn’t just show the way—He is the way.”
Action Steps
Spend 5 minutes today in stillness, thanking Jesus for being your gate and protector.
Identify one area where you have been listening to “other voices” (fear, comparison, temptation) and surrender it to God.
Choose one way to walk in the abundant life Jesus offers—joy, gratitude, generosity, obedience.
Reflection Questions
Where am I seeking fulfillment outside of Jesus, the true gate?
What areas of my life need His protection and guidance today?
How would my everyday living change if I believed Jesus truly offers abundance?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for being the gate to life, joy, and safety. Guard my heart from the enemy’s voice and lead me into Your pasture of peace. Help me trust You as the entrance to every good thing in my life. Fill me with Your abundant life—overflowing with faith, obedience, and purpose. Amen.
