Scripture: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
Devotional:Many people live under invisible chains—chains of fear, guilt, confusion, or lies. Jesus’ words in John 8:32 remind us that freedom is found not in ignorance or pretending, but in knowing the truth.
A true story illustrates this beautifully: Corrie ten Boom, a Dutch Christian who helped hide Jews during World War II, survived a Nazi concentration camp. After the war, she struggled with bitterness and anger toward those who had imprisoned her. During a speaking engagement, a man from the Gestapo who had once persecuted her approached, seeking forgiveness. In that moment, Corrie realized that holding on to bitterness was like carrying invisible chains. By embracing the truth of God’s forgiveness, she experienced freedom—true, liberating freedom that released her from the prison of her own heart.
Corrie once said:"Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart."
Jesus’ truth works in the same way. Knowing God’s truth about who He is, who we are in Him, and the power of His forgiveness sets us free from sin, shame, and fear. Freedom doesn’t always come instantly or easily, but the truth always breaks chains when we allow it to take root in our hearts.
Action Steps:
Spend time in God’s Word daily to know His truth personally.
Identify one area of your life where fear, guilt, or deception is holding you back. Pray for clarity and breakthrough.
Write down lies you believe about yourself and counter each with God’s truth.
Seek reconciliation or forgiveness in a relationship where bitterness or anger exists.
Reflection Questions:
What chains or lies are holding me back from fully experiencing God’s freedom?
How has the truth of Jesus already set me free in my life?
What step of obedience can I take this week to live more fully in God’s truth?
Prayer:Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your truth to me through Your Word. Show me the areas of my life where I am still in chains, and give me the courage to embrace Your truth fully. Help me to forgive, release, and live freely in Christ. May Your Spirit guide me daily into the freedom You promised. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
