The Adventures of Libby, Gigi, and Jesus

Jesus Touches the Untouchable

Scriptures: Luke 5:12-16

Libby and Gigi were having another wonderful adventure with Jesus. The sun was shining warmly on the grassy meadow near their favorite spot by the stream. Libby, with her golden blond hair tied back in a ponytail and her hazel eyes sparkling with curiosity, sat cross-legged on the soft ground. Gigi, her playful three-year-old English bulldog, was curled up beside her, her wrinkled face resting happily on Libby's lap, occasionally letting out a contented little snort.

Jesus sat with them, His presence filling the air with peace and love. He held an open Bible in His hands, but more often He simply spoke from His heart, making the words come alive.

“Today, my dear Libby and sweet Gigi,” Jesus began with a tender smile, “I want to tell you about a day when I met a man who felt completely alone and unclean.”

Libby leaned forward, eyes wide. “Unclean? Like when I get mud all over my shoes after playing with Gigi in the puddles?”

Jesus chuckled softly. “A little like that, but much deeper, sweetheart. This man had a disease called leprosy. In those days, it was very serious. His skin had painful sores, and because of it, people were afraid to get near him. He had to live outside the town, away from his family and friends. No one would touch him or even come close. He felt so unwanted and ashamed.”

Gigi tilted her head and let out a little “woof,” as if she understood sadness.

Libby’s face grew serious. “That sounds so lonely, Jesus. Didn’t anyone help him?”

Jesus continued gently, “One day, the man heard about Me. He came looking for Me even though he wasn’t supposed to enter the city. When he saw Me, he fell on his face right there on the ground and begged, ‘Lord, if You will, You can make me clean.’”

Libby gasped. “He was brave to come to You!”

“He was full of faith,” Jesus said, His eyes kind. “He didn’t doubt that I could heal him. He just wondered if I would.”

Gigi nuzzled closer to Libby as Jesus went on.

“Then I did something no one else would do. I stretched out My hand… and I touched him.”

Libby’s hazel eyes grew big. “You touched him? Even though everyone else was scared?”

“Yes, Libby. I touched the man that no one else would touch. And I said to him, ‘I will; be clean.’ Right away, the leprosy left him. His skin became healthy and new again.”

“Wow!” Libby whispered, hugging Gigi a little tighter. Gigi wagged her little tail thump-thump against the grass.

Jesus smiled at their wonder. “But there’s more, little ones. After I healed him, I told him, ‘Don’t tell anyone yet. Go show yourself to the priest and make the offering that Moses commanded. This will be a proof to them.’”

“Why did You say that, Jesus?” Libby asked, tilting her head just like Gigi does when she’s listening hard.

“Because I wanted him to follow God’s good rules and give honor to what God had already taught through Moses. Healing is wonderful, but obedience matters too. Still… the news about what happened spread quickly. Great crowds started coming to hear Me teach and to be healed of all kinds of sicknesses.”

Libby looked thoughtful. “So You became really famous?”

Jesus nodded. “Many people came. But do you know what I did when the crowds got bigger and louder?”

Both Libby and Gigi looked up at Him expectantly.

“I would slip away to quiet, lonely places… and I would pray to My Father.”

Libby thought about that for a moment. “Even when everyone wanted You, You still made time to talk to God?”

“Always, sweet girl,” Jesus said, reaching out to gently brush a strand of blond hair from her face. “Prayer is where I found strength. It’s where I remembered My purpose. Even when I was healing and helping so many, I never stopped depending on My Father.”

Gigi rolled onto her back, paws in the air, as if saying she wanted a belly rub from Jesus too. He laughed and gave her a gentle scratch.

What This Means for You

Jesus wants you to know three beautiful truths from this story:

  1. Jesus is willing to touch the “untouchable.” No matter how messy, sick, sad, or ashamed you feel, Jesus is not afraid to come close. He loves you just as you are and has the power to make you clean and new on the inside.

  2. Jesus has compassion and power. The man said, “If You will…” and Jesus answered, “I will.” He still says that to hurting hearts today: “I will help you. I will forgive you. I will make you whole.”

  3. Jesus shows us the importance of prayer. Even the Son of God needed quiet time with His Father. When life gets busy or crowded with noise, the best thing we can do is find a quiet place and talk to God.

A Prayer to Pray Together

Dear Jesus, Thank You for touching the man with leprosy when no one else would. Thank You that You are willing to touch my heart too, even when I feel messy or sad. Help me remember to come to You with my hurts, just like the man did. Teach me to obey You like You told the man to do, and help me find quiet moments to pray, just like You did. We love You, Jesus. Amen.

Something Fun to Do with Gigi (or any friend!)

Draw a picture of the man being healed by Jesus. Then draw yourself and your pet (or a friend) sitting with Jesus, just like Libby and Gigi. Talk about one thing that makes you feel “untouchable” or lonely—and ask Jesus to touch that part of your heart with His love.

Bible Verse to Remember “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus said, “I will; be clean.” (Luke 5:12-13)

May your adventures with Jesus always remind you: You are never too messy for His love. He is always willing.
