The Adventures of Libby, Gigi, and Jesus “Salty Like Jesus!” (Based on Luke 14:34-35)

Today’s Adventure

Libby skipped along the dusty road beside Jesus, her blond hair bouncing in the breeze and her hazel eyes full of curiosity. Gigi, the cheerful 3-year-old black-and-white English bulldog, trotted right beside them, sniffing everything interesting.

They had just finished listening to Jesus teach the big crowd. As they walked, Jesus picked up a small handful of salt from a traveler’s bag and showed it to Libby and Gigi.

“Salt is very good,” Jesus said. “It makes food taste delicious, and it keeps food from going bad. But if salt loses its saltiness, it becomes useless. You can’t use it in food anymore, and it’s not even good for the garden or the trash pile. People just throw it away.”

Jesus looked at Libby with kind eyes. “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear!”

What Jesus Wants Libby, Gigi, and You to Know

Later, under their favorite shady tree, Jesus sat down with Libby and Gigi. Gigi rested her wrinkly black-and-white face happily on Libby’s lap while Jesus explained.

“Libby, My followers are like salt in the world. You are meant to make life around you better and tastier! You bring joy, kindness, and God’s love everywhere you go. You help ‘preserve’ what is good and stop things from going bad.

But if you stop living for Me—if you become just like everyone else and lose your ‘saltiness’—then you won’t be able to help others the way I want you to. That’s why it’s so important to stay close to Me every day through prayer, reading God’s Word, and choosing to love like I do.”

Libby thought for a moment. “So I can be like salt that makes the world better?”

“Yes!” Jesus smiled big. “Stay salty for Me, Libby. Let your life point everyone to My love. Even Gigi can be part of it by showing happy, friendly love everywhere she goes!”

Gigi gave a big happy snort and wagged her tail, making Libby giggle.

Family Activity Idea: Do a simple salt experiment! Taste plain food, then add a little salt. Talk about how followers of Jesus can make the world around them better and “tastier” with God’s love. Make salty snacks together and pray for opportunities to be salt this week.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, Thank You for calling us to be like salt in the world. Help us stay close to You so we never lose our saltiness. Fill us with Your joy, kindness, and love so we can make life better for everyone around us. We want to be salty for You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
