The Adventures of Libby, Gigi, and Jesus “The Best Seat at the Table” (Based on Luke 14:7-11)

Today’s Adventure

Libby’s blond hair bounced as she walked excitedly beside Jesus. Her hazel eyes sparkled with wonder. Gigi, the happy 3-year-old black-and-white English bulldog, trotted along with her tongue out, wagging her whole body.

They were invited to a big wedding feast! Tables were filled with delicious food, and many important people were there. Everyone wanted to sit in the best seats near the front.

Libby watched as some guests rushed to grab the places of honor. Jesus quietly took a seat near the end of the table. Gigi curled up happily by His feet.

Jesus turned to the guests and told this story:

“When someone invites you to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the place of honor. Someone more important than you might come, and the host will say, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then you will be embarrassed and have to move to the lowest place.

Instead, when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place. Then the host will come and say, ‘Friend, move up to a better seat!’ And everyone there will see how you are honored.”

What Jesus Wants Libby, Gigi, and You to Know

After the feast, Jesus sat with Libby and Gigi on a quiet hillside. The sun was setting, and Gigi rested her big bulldog head on Libby’s lap while Jesus explained.

“Libby, the people at the feast were trying to make themselves look important. But true greatness in God’s Kingdom isn’t about pushing to the front or bragging. It’s about being humble.

When we choose the lowest place—when we put others first and don’t try to be the most important—God notices. He loves to lift up those who have humble hearts.”

Libby thought for a moment. “So it’s better to let others go first?”

Jesus smiled warmly. “Yes! The person who tries to make themselves great will be brought low, but the one who humbles themselves will be lifted up. That’s how My Kingdom works. It’s the opposite of how the world often does things.”

Gigi gave a big snort and rolled over for belly rubs. Jesus laughed. “Even Gigi knows that being humble and friendly makes everyone happier!”

1. Why do you think people wanted the best seats at the feast?

2. What does it look like to choose the “lowest place” at home, school, or church?

3. How can our family practice humility this week? (Examples: letting someone else go first, helping without being asked, giving compliments instead of bragging.)

Family Activity Idea: Play “The Humble Game” at your next meal. Take turns letting others go first in line, choosing the smallest piece of dessert, or saying something kind about each other. Talk about how it feels to put others first like Jesus taught.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, Thank You for teaching us about humility. Help us not to push ourselves to the front or try to look more important than others. Give us hearts that are glad to serve and put other people first. We want You to be honored in everything we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
