One sunny afternoon, Libby (a bright seven-year-old girl with pretty blond hair and sparkling hazel eyes) and her best buddy Gigi (a wrinkly, three-year-old Old English bulldog with a big squishy face and a wiggly tail) were sitting under their favorite big tree in the backyard.

Libby had her favorite Bible storybook open on her lap. Gigi plopped right next to her, resting her chunky head on Libby's leg, snorting happily.

“Gigi,” Libby said, “sometimes I wonder... how do we really know all these stories about Jesus are true? Like, did people just make them up?”

Just then, something wonderful happened. A gentle, warm light seemed to fill the air around them, and there was Jesus—kind, smiling, and sitting right with them on the soft grass! He looked so loving, like the best friend ever.

“Hi Libby and Gigi,” Jesus said softly. “I heard your question. Let Me tell you a little adventure story about how the Bible came to be.”

Libby’s eyes got big. Gigi tilted her head and let out a curious “woof?”

Jesus began, “A long time ago, after I had done so many amazing things—like healing people, teaching about God’s love, and even rising from the dead—lots of people saw it all with their own eyes. They were My friends and helpers. They told everyone exactly what happened, just like when you tell your mom what you and Gigi did on your walk!”

He patted Gigi’s wrinkly head, and she wagged her tail extra hard.

“Then a man named Luke wanted to help people know the truth for sure. He was like a super careful detective. He talked to the eyewitnesses—the people who were really there. He listened to all the stories. He checked everything closely, like how you check under your bed for monsters before you sleep!”

Libby giggled. “Did he write it all down neatly?”

“Yes!” Jesus said. “Luke wrote an orderly account—a beautiful, clear story—so his friend Theophilus could be certain. ‘Certain’ means you can trust it completely, like you trust that Gigi will always love you and follow you everywhere.”

Jesus looked right at Libby with His kind eyes. “So when you read the Bible, Libby, it’s not just any book. It’s a true story written carefully by people who knew Me, saw Me, and wanted everyone—like you and Gigi—to be sure about God’s love and My promises.”

Gigi gave a happy snort and licked Libby's hand, as if saying, “I believe it!”

Libby hugged her Bible close. “So I can trust every word?”

“Every single one,” Jesus said. “The Bible is My true adventure story for you. It shows you how much God loves you, and how you can be close to Me forever.”

Then Jesus gave them both a big, warm hug—Libby felt it in her heart, and Gigi’s tail went thump-thump-thump on the ground.

Prayer Time (you can say this with a child):

Dear Jesus, Thank You for the true stories in the Bible. Thank You for people like Luke who wrote them down so carefully so we can be sure. Help Libby, Gigi, and me trust Your words every day. We love You! Amen.

Something to Think About: Next time you read your Bible, remember it’s like a special letter from God—true, safe, and full of love. Just like Libby trusts Gigi to be her friend, you can trust Jesus and His Word completely!

  1. How does it make you feel to know that people like Luke worked really hard to write down the true stories about Jesus, just like a detective making sure everything is right? (Kids can share feelings like “safe,” “happy,” or “excited.” Parents can talk about why trusting the Bible matters to them.)

  2. If you were going to write a special story about something amazing God did in your life—like a prayer He answered or a time you felt His love—who would you want to tell that story to, and why? (This helps kids think personally about God’s work in their own lives, just like Luke wrote for Theophilus. Parents can share a short story from their own life too.)

  3. Libby asked if the Bible stories are really true, and Jesus said we can be “certain” (super sure) about them. What helps you feel sure that Jesus loves you and that the Bible is true? (Answers might include: reading the Bible, praying, church, family talking about God, answered prayers, or even watching Gigi love Libby every day as a picture of God’s faithful love.)

You can read the devotional together first, then take turns answering each question. No wrong answers—just honest hearts! These questions help kids connect the Bible to their everyday adventures with Jesus.
