The Great Commission – Mark 16:15
Scripture “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.’” — Mark 16:15 (NIV)
The Mission Briefing
Jesus spoke these words in the shadow of the empty tomb. Death had been defeated. The ultimate battle was won. Yet instead of calling His followers to rest, celebrate, or build comfortable lives, He issued a command that still echoes through history: “Go.”
This wasn’t a suggestion for the super-spiritual or the full-time pastors. It was a direct order given to ordinary, broken men—fishermen, tax collectors, doubters, and cowards who had just abandoned Him days earlier. The resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead is the same power now entrusted to every man who follows Him. God doesn’t save us to sit safely on the sidelines. He saves us to send us into the fight.
As men, we are wired for purpose. We thrive when we have a mission—to provide, protect, lead, and conquer challenges. The Great Commission taps directly into that God-given drive. It calls us out of passive, self-centered living and into active, courageous obedience. The gospel isn’t a private comfort; it’s a public charge. Jesus is saying, “The victory is already Mine. Now take My flag into enemy territory.”
What This Means for You as a Man
In a world that tells men to be quiet, tolerant, and non-confrontational about faith, Mark 16:15 is a battle cry. Your workplace, gym, neighborhood, and family are your mission field. The men around you—struggling with addiction, broken marriages, identity confusion, or silent despair—are waiting for someone bold enough to speak truth.
You don’t need a theology degree or perfect eloquence. The disciples didn’t either. What you need is obedience and reliance on the Holy Spirit. Your honest story of how Christ changed you carries more weight than a polished sermon. Live with integrity on the job site. Love your wife sacrificially so your children see what real manhood looks like. Discipline with grace. Serve without seeking applause. When men see this kind of strength under control, they notice—and they become curious about the God behind it.
This command also confronts our excuses: “I’m too busy.” “What if they reject me?” “I’m not ready.” Jesus answered those fears with His resurrection. If He can overcome the grave, He can overcome your insecurity, your schedule, and your past failures. The same power that raised Him lives in you (Romans 8:11).
Action Steps for Real Men
Pray with purpose. Each morning this week, ask God to open one door to share the gospel. Write down three specific men in your life who need Christ and pray for them daily by name.
Speak boldly but naturally. Look for everyday moments—at lunch, during a workout, or in a conversation about struggles—to share what Jesus has done for you. Keep it real: “Man, I was in a dark place until I met Christ…”
Live visibly different. Work hard with honesty. Reject crude talk. Step up as a leader in your home. Mentor a younger man. Your actions preach louder than words.
Expand your reach. Support a missionary financially or through prayer. Use your skills—whether in business, trades, coaching, or leadership—to create opportunities for the gospel. Consider a short-term mission trip or local outreach.
Accountability. Share this challenge with a trusted brother in Christ and check in weekly on how you’re obeying the Great Commission.
Challenge: This week, refuse to let the gospel stop with you. Take at least one uncomfortable step—initiate a gospel conversation, invite a coworker to church, or share your testimony. The King has already won the war. Now live like it.
Closing Prayer
Lord, You rose victorious and gave me marching orders. Forgive me for living small and silent when You called me to go. Fill me with resurrection power. Make me bold, clear, and compassionate. Use my words, my work, my strength, and my life to reach men who are lost. I want to stand before You one day and hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Go, brother. The world is waiting. Your mission starts today.
