✨ Devotional on Proverbs 11:25 (CSB) A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water.
True Story: The Gift That Came Back Around
Several years ago, a small-town pastor named Mark noticed a single mother in his congregation who was struggling. Her refrigerator had broken down, and with three young children, she was overwhelmed and embarrassed. Without making an announcement, Mark quietly rallied a few church members to pitch in and buy her a new one. They delivered it the next day—no fanfare, no recognition.
A month later, Mark’s own car broke down on his way to visit a hospitalized member. Repairs were going to cost far more than he could afford. When he returned to the church office discouraged, an envelope was waiting on his desk. Inside was a handwritten card and enough money to cover the entire repair. It was signed simply: “From someone who has been blessed—thank you for being generous.”
Mark never knew who it came from, but he knew one thing: God has a way of letting generosity come full circle. As Proverbs 11:25 promises, those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.
Devotional Thought
God’s economy works differently from ours. In a world afraid of scarcity, Scripture invites us into a life of open-handed generosity. Proverbs 11:25 reminds us that when we give—whether it’s time, resources, encouragement, or compassion—we step into the flow of God’s blessing. Generosity does not diminish us; it deepens us. It forms Christ-like character, aligns us with God’s heart, and opens the door for God to pour back into us in ways we may not expect.
Generosity is not about amount—it’s about posture. The one who offers even a cup of cold water, Jesus says, will not lose their reward. When you choose to refresh others, God Himself becomes your refreshment.

“Generosity is not something God wants from you—it is something He wants for you.” — Andy Stanley
Action Steps
Bless One Person Today: Look for a simple, immediate way to refresh someone—a text, a meal, a small gift, a moment of encouragement.
Identify One Area of Overflow: Ask yourself: Where has God enriched me? (time, finances, skills, compassion). Choose one to share this week.
Pray for a Generous Heart: Make generosity part of your daily rhythm. Start each morning with: “Lord, show me who I can refresh today.”
Personal Reflection Questions
When was a time someone’s generosity refreshed you, even in a small way?
What fear or barrier keeps you from living more open-handedly?
How could your generosity reveal Christ to someone this week?
Prayer
Father, thank You for being the God who generously pours out grace, strength, and provision. Make my heart like Yours—open, compassionate, and willing to give. Help me to see the needs around me and respond with joy, not hesitation. As I refresh others, refresh my soul. Use my life as a conduit of Your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
