Exalted Above All: Trusting in God's Name and Word

Psalm 138:2 (ESV)"I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word."

There is something powerful about bowing. In this posture, the psalmist David expresses deep reverence—not just with his words, but with his body. He bows toward the holy temple, lifting up praise to the God who has shown him unwavering love and faithfulness. But what stands out most in this verse is the declaration that God has exalted above all things His name and His word.

God’s name represents who He is—His character, His authority, His glory. And His word? It is His promises, His truth, His voice spoken and preserved through the ages. Together, these are lifted higher than anything else. David is reminding us that God's name and word are the most trustworthy things in our lives.

In seasons of uncertainty, pain, or confusion, we can anchor ourselves in this truth: God never fails to be who He says He is, and He always keeps His word.

Reflective Questions

  • What does it mean to you that God's name and word are exalted above all things?

  • Can you recall a time when you experienced God's steadfast love and faithfulness?

  • In what area of your life do you need to trust more deeply in God's promises today?

A Personal Prayer

Lord, I bow my heart before You today. Thank You for Your steadfast love and Your unfailing faithfulness in my life. You are a God who never changes, whose name is holy, and whose word is eternal. Help me trust in You more fully. Let my life reflect my gratitude and awe for who You are. Amen.

Journaling Prompt

Take a moment to write about one promise from God's Word that you are holding onto right now. Why is it meaningful to you? How has God shown Himself faithful in this area in the past?

Closing Encouragement: No matter what you're facing today, take a moment to bow your heart—physically or spiritually—and give thanks. His love is unwavering, His word is sure, and His name is worthy to be praised.
